Men Only Groups
The Christian Narrative
led by Jimi WuJust as Christ came to change the world, so too were the Apostles sent to change the world. In the book of Acts, we will study how the narrative of redemption was spread through the Roman/Hellenistic world and the founding of the early church. Through discussion and questioning we will discover some of the early history of the church and how church doctrines were formed in the early age.
The Numenoreans Part II
led by Isak Lee & Jeremy RohThe Numenoreans, in Tokien's world, were high men of riches and glory who eventually shattered their own kingdom due to their arrogance, greed, and disrespect towards God (and, I would guess, their wasted time at the karaoke). Last semester we mostly covered general biblical principles of what it takes to be men of God, and we looked at a few examples within the Bible. This semester, we will further discuss that aspect and seek to apply it to more specific instances. How should we react in certain situations? How much should we know? What attitude must we have? How real is our sin and what does it do to us?
Bona Fide Faith
led by Mike Yim & James JuTVs, magazines, the Internet... no matter where we turn, we are constantly bombarded with advertisements that inject into us images of what an ideal lifestyle looks like. Unfortunately, we as Christians struggle with separating ourselves from this influence. "Jesus loves you!" and "Come to church!" no longer hold significant meaning as there is nothing strikingly different about how we live our lives. Seeking integrity over hypocrisy, we will be studying the book of James for practical guidelines on how to have a faith that is supported by works. God's Word is not merely something we read or think about, but something we do.
Women Only Groups
If We are the Body
led by Hwanhee Kang & Sara KimAs Christians, we are “being built to become a dwelling place in which God lives by His spirit.”(Ephesians 2:22) Understanding unity in the faith and the meaning of being a living stone for God’s church will grow us in truth and compel us to serve Him more faithfully. As we go over Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, we will learn the importance of fellowship and commitment to the church and how to live out our faith as one body of Christ.
His Beloved
led by Iris Kim & Justine PakGod commands us to love Him and to love one another, but He is not speaking of the world’s superficial, watered-down idea of love. The love God calls us to have is something entirely different, but how are we to embody His love without fully understanding what it is in the first place? In this small group, we will study and discuss specific aspects of true, God-given love, and we will also learn how to show this love to God and to our fellow brothers and sisters. Our material will come from various passages in both the Old and New Testaments.
Breaking Out of the Mold
led by Jessica LeeToday, the world seems to expect perfection in every aspect, even in Christians. We see this stereotype of "Holy" Christians who seem to do everything right in every way. We even speak our own language! Is that what Christianity really is? We will be reading Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz where he shows us a refreshing and real aspect of Christianity: his own. In this small group, we will learn how we, in turn, can live outside of the mold and follow after Christ according to how He has made us and not to what the world tells us to be.
Bad Girls of the Bible
led by Hye Sun Na & Shalon KimWho are your favorite characters in the Bible? I bet they aren’t the "bad girls!" In this small group, we are going to delve into their lives and seek to learn from the mistakes made by the "bad girls of the Bible." On top of that, we are going to study the examples set by women of faith.
The Difference
led by Sharon Lee & Terrie Koo"I woke up early this morning and paused before entering the day, I had so much to accomplish that I had to take time to pray." Is prayer a part of your life? What exactly is prayer? We will learn the model prayer that was given to us, and we will explore the depths of one's heart when making a prayer by reading through those prayers in the Bible. "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." - James 5:16b
The Poor Christians
led by Deborah Kim & Hope HongAs followers of Christ, we are called to do many things, but many times, we fall and stumble. Sometimes, we find ourselves idle and lazy, purposeless and lost. This small group will discuss the job Christ left for us to accomplish as Christians, and why is it that we can't seem to get off of our butts and do it. We will try to encourage and challenge one another to truly make our deeds reflect our faith.
